The rules

How EDDM size works

It has to be a flat

USPS only takes flats through EDDM, not letter-size cards. A piece is a flat when it is longer than 10.5 inches, taller than 6.125 inches, or thicker than 0.25 inches. Clearing one is enough. (DMM 143, section 2.5.1)

It can't be too big

No more than 15 inches long, 12 inches high and 0.75 inches thick, and no heavier than 3.3 ounces. (DMM 101.2.1)

Folded pieces count as mailed

A folded flyer is measured at its folded size. Our 11 × 17 flyer folds to 8.5 × 11, which qualifies.

Every size on our product pages already meets these rules. For the USPS rule table and every size we print drawn to scale, see EDDM sizes and requirements, and check your artwork with the free EDDM file checker.

Size questions

Is 6 by 9 EDDM eligible?

No. A 6 by 9 piece misses both EDDM size rules: 6 inches is under the 6.125-inch height minimum and 9 inches is under the 10.5-inch length minimum. It fails by an eighth of an inch. A 6.25 x 9 or 6.5 x 9 postcard qualifies.

What is the smallest EDDM size?

An EDDM piece has to be a flat: longer than 10.5 inches, or taller than 6.125 inches, or thicker than a quarter inch. It only needs to clear one. The smallest postcard we print for EDDM is 6.5 x 8, which qualifies on height.

What is the largest EDDM size?

No more than 15 inches long, 12 inches high and three quarters of an inch thick, and no heavier than 3.3 ounces. The largest size we print is 11 x 17, folded in half to 8.5 x 11 for mailing.

Do folded mailers count by their flat or folded size?

By the size they are mailed at. An 11 x 17 flyer folded in half mails as 8.5 x 11, so the 8.5 x 11 size is what has to qualify.

Are 4 x 6 and 5 x 7 postcards EDDM sizes?

No. Both are letter-size pieces for USPS. They are under every EDDM minimum, so they cannot go through Every Door Direct Mail.
